Bridal Showers

Last weekend I had my first Bridal Shower with relatives from my father's side of the family. It was lovely! It was High Tea themed, so everyone was wearing fancy hats and picked out what tea they wanted.

Have I mentioned how much I love cucumber sandwiches? Travis's Grandma actually turned me onto theme, haha.

The presents were amazing, and we are grateful for every single one! We've already used the toaster, spice rack, George Forman Grill, and look forward to using the picnic basket! With this weather, I might try to steal Travis away for a trip to the park!

Also, Travis's mom bought us a wonderful 6-seating dishwear set that we look forward to using when our kitchen table gets set up! As soon as that all gets done and things calm down after the wedding (barring that I have a job at that point), I'm going to be inviting people over like crazy so I can cook!

The watering can is sitting on our bookshelf in the living room and looks great with our current decor - hopefully I'll be able to actually use it for gardening someday! The coasters will be great once the cake table becomes our coffee table!

My mother bought us a pot used for soups (and other things, which I'm looking forward to exploring, haha) and martini glasses.

All of the Gift Cards will be put to good use as well!

I'm really sorry if I missed anything so far, we're really super grateful for everything and will be sending everyone a thank-you!

I have another Bridal Shower later today with my girlfriends (steampunk themed), and then another one tomorrow afternoon with a lot of friends of my mother's and mine. Then in a few weeks we are having a "couples" shower with both Travis and I.

I won't deny sneeking peeks at the registries to see what items have a number under the "bought" column, haha.

We're so blessed to have so many people around to support us! It's really moving, and it just reassures us that no matter what happens, we have each other and we have a ton of people around us to keep us going. God bless, everyone!

Invitations

I took a bunch of pictures of what our guests can expect when they receive their invitations!

Just know that I threw the gears and clock pieces on there as decoration, haha. They won't actually be in the invitations :) A bit of a steampunk touch, if you will.

July Updates

There hasn't been any big news for awhile now, but a few things happened today that I am allowed to share!

First off, we are doing a sand ceremony in the wedding - this is much like the unity candle ceremony, but instead of lighting candles, the bride and groom pour vials of sand into a central container. In our case, we have an hourglass, which we just purchased from T & K Young.

Why an hourglass? Well, first - I have a thing for them. Something about the elegance, history, aesthetics, sound of sand falling - not to mention the more nerdy aspects (i.e. "time in a bottle", time travel, the Time Tuner from Harry Potter, etc...).  In a more romanic sense, it symbolizes that we are combining our God-given time here on Earth because we feel He has brought us together to further His Kingdom as a couple.

We are capable of getting both ends engraved. We are suspecting that we might engrave one side with our names and the wedding date and the other end with Jeremiah 29:11, which has been my favorite Bible verse for the majority of my life.

"For I know the Plans I have for you," Declares the Lord,
"Plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
Plans to give you hope and a future."

It was that verse that really spoke to me in the times when I was lowest. More relevantly, the times when I thought I would spend the rest of my life by myself. Wondering why I felt so unloveable, ugly, different, and unwanted. Now it reminds me that God comes through, and while I felt that way about myself, it wasn't true at all. It will stand to support us as a family, as we fully understand that the rest of our lives won't be gumdrops, rainbows, and unicorns.

The other thing is that I bought my shoes, but that's really not too big of a deal. I mean, "Wow, I have something to wear on my feet, everyone!" Bought from Bethany's Pageant/Tux/Dance Wear.

I have the sketches of my dress and the bridesmaids dresses in my possession along with a couple of swatches of the fabric/colors. However, that is something for me to know and the majority of you to find out when you see the pictures, haha.

I need to update the wedding site a bit, since I realized that I don't have a link to this blog at all. We will also be updating it with directions. Those will also be available in the invitations - which I will upload pictures of those when they are done.

My mother is in Florida right now with a friend who is sick, so we will be finishing the invitations when she gets back.

We visited the Photographer, Jen at Essenza, again the other week, which was lovely since I hadn't seen her since the beginning of this journey. I feel like she is just as excited about the wedding as I am, haha!

Speaking of which, publicity. Jen has said that she will already be blogging and sending pictures to magazines from the wedding. My steamstress, Stephanie at Vintage Modiste, has informed me that the curator of the Bridal Dress Expo at the Cincinnati Art Museum is sad she couldn't have my dress for the event (which Travis and I went to see, it was absolutely lovely and I would have been honoured to let my dress be apart of it!). My mother said she will be calling local news stations, and apparently a lady in Pennsylvania is working on getting it national attention(?). There was something else, too, I think... but I don't know. It's just kind of crazy, and I'm really honoured that so many people are interested in my wedding.

I owe a lot of the thanks to my mother, who has given me so much. This wedding really is as much for her as it is me, but I still feel that she has kept it 'my day'. Thanks, mom, you're really the best!

Only 3 months to go. For over a year now people have been telling me "it will be here before ya know it" to the point where I want to take that sentence away from humans. Maybe rocks will start saying it to me then. Creepy. Anyways, they are right. It still seems so far away... like I totally have time to lose 50lbs, haha.

I wonder if this blog will skyrocket in views after the wedding? That will be interesting.

I should make a legitimate vlog soon... not one of those 3am things that I seem to keep doing where I look like I've just rolled out of bed, haha.

Also, Travis has been making some awesome chainmail stuff lately! Be looking for a link to wear you can buy it!

Sappy Video of Epic Sappiness

Us saying sappy things about each other while sappy pictures of us growing up go by, while sappy music is playing. One of my proudest videos that I've created :)

Where it Gets Real

I won't deny that it still sometimes seems surreal that I'm getting married. Two and a half years seems like such a short time to really get to know anyone, let alone fall in love. But it's true. When I get "cold feet" about it, I ask myself why... and the only reason I can think of is "it's such a big step, and one I hardly thought I'd ever take" considering I spent a good amount of my childhood and teenage years trying to accept the fact that I'm fat and unlovable by anyone but family. However, that is, without a doubt, the dumbest reason to second-guess myself, or Travis for that matter - this is his decision too.

The wedding gets more real as I see it coming together - when I can see actual, physical pieces that will be in the wedding. These pieces are usually small and have been spread out - but I get the feeling things are going to be falling into place a lot faster this summer.

For example:

This may be the only picture of the table that I will upload until after the wedding. I don't want to give too much away ;-)

That's right, this is what will be the cake table. The one that has a series of gears beneath a glass top that are rotated by what seems like a miniature steam engine - and in turn those gears are rotating platforms that the cake will be on.

This was one of the first ideas I came up with when Travis first mentioned having a Steampunk wedding. This was way before he ever proposed, so it was great that we already knew what we were doing when he finally did! But given that this idea has been around since the beginning, it's really close to my heart, and I'm so grateful to the builder for allowing me to have such a great piece at my wedding, and for the rest of my life!

That's right! After the wedding, this will turn into the coolest coffee table you will ever see!
---------

Travis and I completed registering at Bed, Bath, and Beyond yesterday! Our registry number is 12258187, or you can just search the registries for "Brittany Klopfstein".

We've also "registered" at thinkgeek.com - it's a wishlist and you can find it here.

I'll be getting the website done this week - you can see it so far here. It's really, really, not finished yet, haha.

Mom and I also went to see the florist the other week. I was going to see if I could get a mock set-up of what the finished product might look like at the wedding so I could show you all, but I get scolded a bit for trying to ruin the surprise, haha. So sorry! There will be TONS of pictures after the wedding! You just have to wait till Novemberish!

Actual Wedding Updates

Honeymoon plane tickets have been purchased. We're not allowed to know where we are actually staying, haha.

------

All of the groomsmen are in order (and now know that they, in fact, ARE groomsmen). We've decided that they are all (including Travis) going to be wearing black tuxedos w/ tails, top hats, and possibly some other fun stuff.

So that list of groomsmen is now: Mark (best man), Dan, Vincent (my brother), and Shane.

The list of bridesmaids are: Myra (maid of honor), Alys, Sam, and Mallory.

What is funny about this... Sam and Vincent will be walking together. What is funny about that is.... the first time Sam ever came over to visit, Vincent hit her car, haha. It's just too funny, they think it's funny too.

------

Travis moved into the apartment about two weeks ago. I've started moving some of my unnecessary furniture, like my bookcase (w/ books) and DVD case (w/ DVDs). I also have a shelf unit and I think I'm also going to attempt to take over my vanity/dresser. I currently don't keep any cloths in it. There are 6 drawers and 3 of them are empty. The other 3 have random costuming, make-up, and accessories. I'll go through that and probably throw away most of it.

------

Right now I'm working on putting together a list of songs for the cocktail hour/reception. I'm also going to be working on remixing a file of Lord of the Rings music for when bridal party and myself are walking down the aisle.

Also, the invitations and website are on my list of things to-do. Travis and I are starting to plan for going around and registering at places. At least Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target.
